The Opel Antara not only combines dynamics and driving performance with prestigious elegance, its thought-through body concept also offers a high degree of comfort and practical functionality. This begins with its length and width (4,596 x 1,850 mm) that don’t take up more space than a normal mid-size car and make the striking crossover an ideal companion for urban driving. The elevated seating positions (vehicle height 1,717 mm) offer an unrestricted all-round view of the road, while the excellent powertrain characteristics and precise handling ensure agility, lively performance and trouble-free maneuvering.
The interior features sophisticated ergonomics one can actually feel thanks to comfortable headroom in front and rear and plenty of space for lateral movement. The rear passenger compartment features tiltable backrests and legroom (946 mm) that is among the most generous in the segment. The Antara underlines its qualities as a vehicle ideal for traveling or as a variable crossover with convincing characteristics and practical features. Its luggage compartment can carry up to 420 liters of cargo in the normal configuration; this grows to 865 liters when the back seat is folded down and up to 1,420 liters when loaded to the roof. The rear backrest (split 60:40) and the front passenger backrest can be folded down to accommodate objects up to 2.63 meters in length.
Redesigned interior with high-quality ambience
To match its spacious comfort and premium interior design, the new Antara also offers “climatic” optimizations. The automatic, completely reworked climate control system with interior air filter guarantees a comfortable cabin climate and ambience.
The upgraded Opel Antara’s interior features an electric parking brake operated by the push of a button that comes as standard. As well as offering a high degree of operating comfort, this also made it possible to completely redesign the center console with an armrest and to provide flexible and spacious storage areas for typical everyday items. The well thought-out storage system is rounded off by a pull-out compartment under the front passenger seat, a sunglasses holder in the roofliner, nets on the front seat backs and a parking ticket holder in the dashboard. The rear passenger cabin also offers practical storage spaces which can be expanded with a multifunctional center armrest (optional).
Tidiness in the cargo area is ensured by an under-floor compartment and the optional FlexOrganizer system. This includes two standard rails on both of the rear side walls into which various (optional) FlexOrganizer elements such as nets, partitions, rods or hooks can be clipped. This means that the luggage compartment can be divided into sections that secure the load and keep it from shifting.
Unbeatably practical: the integrated “FlexFix” bicycle carrier system
Another excellent example of innovation and practical functionality is the optional “FlexFix” rear bicycle carrier. It pulls out just like a drawer and can be set up quickly with minimal effort. When not in use it remains practically invisible, integrated in the rear bumper and thus eliminated as a possible disruption to the crossover’s harmonious exterior design. FlexFix enables the transport of two bicycles (tire size 18 to 28 inches) while maintaining full on-board functionality. This means that the passenger compartment and the loading area space remain available without restriction and nothing has to be installed, dismantled or stored.
Extensive measures for maximum acoustic comfort
Other invisible but all the more noticeable innovations in the 2011 model year Opel Antara include an extensive range of measures for insulation against noise and vibration. This includes:

Other NVH (Noise, Vibration, Harshness) measures to ensure acoustic comfort in the Opel Antara are on the front console, on the C and D pillars, the wheelarch liners and ceiling, steering column, gearshift and door trim. The efforts made by the acoustic specialists lead to a convincing result: the perceptible noise level in the interior of the new Opel Antara was reduced by over 3 dB (A) and thus more than halved.
The performance features of the on-board electronics were also enhanced. They now include systems for efficient control of the electrical on-board system and battery charge status (“RVC”, Regulated Voltage Control) as well as for optimization of noise insulation and energy efficiency of the engine fan in the diesel versions (“PWM”, Pulse Width Modulated).
High levels of passive safety
Complementing the chassis and assist systems’ high active safety reserves, the Opel Antara also offers extensive passive safety features. They are based on a rigid bodyshell structure made up of 37 percent high-strength steel.
The side beam, cross bar and front axle, a robust instrument panel support member as well as reinforced front doors distribute collision energy from a frontal crash along optimized load paths, thus helping to prevent deformation of the passenger compartment. B-pillars constructed of tailored blank metal sheets with varying thickness ensure safety in the event of a side-impact collision. A reinforced rear structure with large longitudinal beams and a fuel tank positioned in front of the rear axle round off the body safety measures.
In the event of minor accidents at low speed, special crash boxes at the front and rear absorb the collision energy and thus limit potential repair costs. Opel has also taken precautions in terms of long-term quality: all of the corrosion-prone areas of the body are galvanized on both sides.
