Rüsselsheim. Opel and BlaBlaCar, the world’s largest long-distance carpooling community, have announced the launch of a pilot project in France offering unique car deals to the community’s most active members. Called Ambassadors, they will have access to a selection of Opel cars at special exclusive rates and through flexible financing. The Opel fleet includes Corsa, Astra, Mokka X and Zafira models and has been chosen based on BlaBlaCar drivers’ preferences. This gives both drivers and passengers the opportunity to experience first-hand the Opel models with their top driving dynamics, first-class technologies and superb comfort in a relaxed atmosphere while travelling to their destination.

“We are very much looking forward to teaming up with BlaBlaCar,” says Peter Küspert, Vice President Sales & Aftersales. “The Ambassadors of BlaBlaCar will get access to a selection of Opel bestsellers such as the Corsa, Astra or Mokka X at preferred conditions. The cars will fit their own needs as well as match the desires of their ridesharing guests – by providing clever while affordable solutions such as the powerful OnStar WiFi hotspot. Our partnership with BlaBlaCar is another step on our way to not only being a car manufacturer but also a leading provider of mobility solutions.” The Rüsselsheim-based brand is the only car manufacturer in the world to be part of such an innovative mobility partnership, which also includes leasing company ALD.

BlaBlaCar’s French Ambassadors are now able to lease or purchase Opel cars at lower prices, access comprehensive warranty and maintenance services as well as benefit from a discount on their lease for every month they carpool on BlaBlaCar.

Nicolas Brusson, CEO of BlaBlaCar, said: “The BlaBlaCar community will purchase more than 1.3 million cars in 2017. The idea here is to leverage the strength of this community to unlock deals that our members would not otherwise be able to access. We want to return value to our Ambassadors, whilst allowing their shared car usage to generate significant additional savings on the cost of their car.”

The global mobility landscape is rapidly evolving, as a combination of financial, practical, environmental and social factors drive a shift to shared car usage. As the traditional model of car ownership changes, it’s imperative that mobility players can cater to these new consumer behaviors.

Together, BlaBlaCar, Opel and ALD are pioneering a new way to fund car purchases, through a unique combination of zero-deposit finance, attractive monthly payments, fully-inclusive maintenance packages and discounts – all of which are made possible thanks to the carpooling activity of BlaBlaCar members.

The Corsa, Astra and Mokka X models belong to the bestselling vehicles in the Opel portfolio and have been ordered around 1.3 million times since their market launches in 2015 and 2016. In combination with Opel OnStar, customers get access to outstanding connectivity and services including Automatic Crash Response, Vehicle Diagnostics, Stolen Vehicle Assistance and a powerful 4G/LTE Wi-Fi Hotspot. In the last 18 months Opel OnStar has already registered more than nine million interactions, around half of those via smartphones and the myOpelApp.
