A perfect platform

New HiPerStrut front suspension

Using a powerful engine in conjunction with conventional McPherson strut front wheel drive systems causes problems, the most obvious being torque steer and radical camber change. The HiPerStrut front suspension of the Opel GTC – proven with the award-winning Opel Insignia OPC – overcomes these and other disadvantages.

By decoupling the steering from the wheel motion geometry, torque steer is reduced to almost zero and traction under heavy acceleration is maximized, resulting in significantly overall ride and handling.

Watt’s link rear suspension

The rear suspension of the Opel GTC is a compound crank axle with Watt’s linkage. While the principle of Watt’s linkage has been known for over 200 years, more recently it has been used mostly in racecars. In effect the principle is straightforward.

 

A steel crossmember just behind the wheel centerline carries the two struts of the linkage. These are pivoted in the middle and the ends attached to the lower wheel carriers. The major benefit of this compact system effectively prevents any lateral movement of the axle, providing more stability, a smoother ride and improved handling.
